Lead Paint Inspectors are in high demand as cities revitalize

July 12, 2023

The revitalization of urban areas and government initiatives have started a resurgence of lead paint testing. With that resurgence, the need for safe and effective lead paint analyzers has increased as well as the need for lead paint inspectors.

As part of The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, HUD made available in January 2023 over $600 million in grants to state and local governments for improving health and safety in privately-owned homes of low-income families and to Public Housing Agencies under HUD’s Lead Hazard Reduction Grant Program.

These grants are developing new business opportunities. Tim Johnson, Business Development for Restricted Substances and Regulatory Markets at SciAps, has seen firsthand how the need for SciAps X-550 Pb analyzers has increased over the year, but has also witnessed the uprise of independent lead paint contractors. Once they are certified, inspectors are buying their own analyzers and starting their own businesses. Individual jobs can be done in 2-3hours, with an average payment of $500/job. At that rate, independent contractors can get certified, buy and pay off their own SciAps lead paint analyzer, and be making a hefty profit by the end of the month, all while working part time.

If you’re interested in finding out more, SciAps will be at a number of lead paint conferences this year. Check out our Events Page for conferences near you. If you can’t make it to a conference, contact us for a demo. We’ll be happy to answer your questions.
