SciAps Handheld Vis-NIR Analyzer ReveNIR

The lightest and fastest handheld Vis-NIR on the market — the modern replacement to the ASD Halo.

Visible and near-infrared spectroscopy across 350–2500 nm, read by three high-resolution array detectors and matched against an on-board library of 200+ minerals in real time. At 4.5 lbs. with an IP54 housing and an integrated fan, it works where the samples are — remote, rugged, and hot.

How It Works

How the ReveNIR Identifies Minerals

ReveNIR

350 – 2500 nm, minerals identified on the spot

A quartz tungsten halogen source illuminates the sample, and three array detectors read the reflected light — VNIR at 350–1000 nm, SWIR 1 at 1000–1700 nm and SWIR 2 at 1700–2500 nm. The spectrum is matched against the on-board library as you work, so a mineral is named in the field rather than weeks later. Wavelength calibration is NIST traceable, accurate to ±0.5 nm.

Where It's Used

  • Early-stage reconnaissance — surface samples, outcroppings and rock formations in hard-to-reach areas, to decide whether a target is worth pursuing.
  • Core logging and drill guidance — alteration and pathfinder minerals in drill core, to direct drilling.
  • Exploration mapping — multiple positions across an outcrop, to map mineralogical change over ground.
  • Food and agriculture — the same reflectance measurement reads organic constituents, moisture and protein among them, in grain, forage and produce.

Key Features

Built for Fieldwork

Reflectance Spectra Analysis

Records reflectance spectra (350–2500 nm) to predict mineral composition, with real-time Spectral Scalars — Al-OH, ISM, Mg-OH, Fe3t — that vector toward mineralization.

250-Mineral Library Included

A basic library of 250 important exploration minerals gets you started immediately, with user additions and USGS SpecLib 7a imports.

Unmatched Portability

Under 4.5 lbs. with battery — 2 lbs lighter and 50% smaller than the ASD Halo — for terrain reachable only by helicopter or small plane.

Versatile Field Use

Reconnaissance, core logging, rock-chip analysis, and mapping — analyze outcrops and assess mineralogy effortlessly.

On-Site Mineral ID

Detects the pathfinder and alteration minerals that vector drilling toward ore: epidote, calcite, chlorite, kaolinite, halloysite, montmorillonite, muscovite, illite, smectites, dickite, hematite, goethite, rectorite and rare earth oxides.

Rapid Decision-Making

Real-time mineral spectra eliminate lab delays, so geologists adjust exploration strategies instantly.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a Vis-NIR analyzer tell me that XRF doesn't?

XRF reports which elements are present; Vis-NIR identifies the minerals they sit in. Reflectance across 350–2500 nm carries the signatures of clays, micas, carbonates, sulphates and other alteration minerals, so the ReveNIR names the mineralogy while an XRF gives you the chemistry. Most exploration teams carry both.

Is the ReveNIR a replacement for the ASD Halo?

It is the modern equivalent, built after the Halo was discontinued: the same field role in a lighter, faster instrument at 4.5 lbs. with a 200+ mineral on-board library.

How many minerals can it identify?

More than 200 out of the box. You can select sub-groups to search, edit the library, and build and search your own.

Will it survive fieldwork?

The housing is IP54-rated against dust and splashing water, an integrated fan keeps it working from 0 to 50 °C, and two hot-swappable batteries give about six hours of continuous use.

Is it only used in mining?

No. Mineral exploration and reconnaissance are the main uses, but the same reflectance measurement is used in food and agriculture, where Vis-NIR reads moisture, protein and other organic constituents.
